Fourth Vice President ─ Education & Legislation
As the oldest and largest advocacy organization in California, PTA is uniquely qualified to influence policymakers who make decisions that affect our children, youth, and families every day. By working collaboratively on issues, PTAs in California and throughout the nation can form a powerful force in securing adequate laws and public policy that is best for the care and protection of children and youth. Remember: No amount of fundraising can have as much impact as a single piece of legislation.
In order to achieve this, PTA members need to be involved, well-informed advocates. Every unit and council should have a legislative chairman position on their executive board to help guide the advocacy efforts and keep their membership updated on legislative issues as they arise and informed about local advocacy events.
Legislative Advocacy Chairmen should work with their Council to thoroughly familiarize themselves with their job requirements. Legislative Advocacy Chairs should be knowledgeable of the resources available to help them so they are prepared to become leaders in training PTA members to be advocates.
